Meet the Medical Team

Dr. Muhammad Alam joined Nephrology Associates of the Carolinas in September 2004. He completed his medical degree and fellowship training at Brookdale University Hospital in New York. Board certified in Nephrology. Dr. Alam sees patients at both practice office locations. He provides inpatient consultations at Atrium Health Cleveland Medical Center. He also serves as Medical Director at several area dialysis units, including DaVita and DCI.

Dr. Jose Mena Pasquel joined Nephrology Associates of the Carolinas in August 2023. He earned his medical degree and completed his fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He is board certified in both Nephrology and Internal Medicine. Dr. Mena Pasquel sees patients at both practice office locations, and he provides inpatient consultations at Atrium Health Cleveland Medical Center. He is also actively involved in patient care at several dialysis units we serve.

Dr. Maham Ali is the newest member of Nephrology Associates of the Carolinas. She earned her medical degree and completed her fellowship training at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Board certified in both Nephrology and Internal Medicine. Dr. Ali sees patients at both practice office locations. She also provides inpatient consultations at Atrium Health Cleveland Medical Center and delivers care at several local dialysis units we serve.

Haley Angel, FNP-C, joined Nephrology Associates of the Carolinas in the spring of 2022. After earning her degree from Gardner-Webb University, she worked in pediatrics for several years before pursuing her interest in nephrology. Haley is highly regarded by her patients and currently sees patients at our Rutherford and Shelby office locations. She also provides care for dialysis patients at the DaVita unit in Forest City, NC.

Jacob “Jake” Douglas, ANP-C, joined Nephrology Associates of the Carolinas in early 2024. He earned his degree at Concordia University in Mequon, Wisconsin, and is a valued addition to our team. Jake sees patients at our Shelby office location and provides care at several dialysis units throughout the area.

Brianna Cook joined Nephrology Associates of the Carolinas in July 2024. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Gardner-Webb University and went on to complete her Doctor of Nursing Practice at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Brianna Cook currently sees patients at our Shelby office location and provides care at several dialysis units throughout the area.
